Forensic Industrial Hygiene

References and Comments

Your …[discussion] … is as good a statement of the mold problem as I have seen. There is far too much mold hysteria by the general public. This is due to misinformation, the 24 hour news cycle,  the lack of scientific education by the general public, and occasionally industry avarice. It is easy for various mold remediation businesses to feed this hysteria, both by deliberately exaggerating the mold risk, and by well meaning individuals ignorant of, or just misunderstanding the scientific facts.

I commend you for your willingness to engage in the debate on this list.

Your State of Knowledge document is the best I have seen at summarizing the current knowledge on the health effects related to mold.  I have read many of the documents you discussed and a document like yours would be very useful in providing a concise document to individuals who have a limited amount of time to spend becoming knowledgeable about a subject.

I hope we are able to use this document and if you have any questions please contact me at this email or feel free to call me.

By the way, your web page is GREAT!

Thank you for sharing your experience on molds (UKOH); it is perfectly timed... Your papers support the advice that I have given them, which was essentially that a mold free environment is unattainable, that they should check for and address moisture problems, maintain their HVAC system, effect good housekeeping, and keep RH levels around 50%.

The presentation you gave today on methamphetamine was excellent.  Our employees learned a great deal and requested further meetings with more in-depth information.  Many individuals related to me that they thought this was “one of the best” in-service meetings we ever had.

Caoimhín is an investigator of the highest caliber, who meticulously researches problems, notices details, is skilled in following standard protocol for data collection and management, and documents all details of his work.  His interpretation of the data and his written reports have always accurate and thorough.  I’m always confident when presenting his reports to our scientists—they are tough critics!

As a fellow professional, I know how difficult it is to put time aside to prepare and practice to present a course.  It was obvious by your skillful delivery and presentation that you made the necessary effort to prepare for the AIHA/RMS 2006 CIH Preparatory Course (Biosafety).

The participants rated the course a worthwhile investment of their time.  These positive results were a direct consequence of you and your fellow volunteer instructors’ efforts.

You have posted the best review of toxic mold I've seen. I have a professional interest as an industrial hygienist, and have read and sampled mold a substantial amount in the last six months. You make the best case for the unscientific nature of the problem. …

I just wanted to write and tell you how much I appreciate your posts to the IAQ list.  I have gotten into the habit of searching for your name so that I can read your well-reasoned responses.  You communicate well and, in an area where it is difficult to always say who is absolutely right or wrong, your positions are at least well explained.

Thanks again!
